PANITEOWL:

HI

Red Deer:

Hello, just talking over the border

Nestor:

ok by me

PANITEOWL:

BB All ...

Red Deer:

PA - I'll periodically check the main room to invite people

PANITEOWL:

Since the last Tarot class, I've had a number of requests as to how to go about "learning" the tarot

OK RD

So I thought I'd do a review of the MYTHIC TAROT WORKBOOK tonight

DeathDesire:

made it..

PANITEOWL:

MM DD

DeathDesire:

mm

DeathDesire:

so who is teaching?

PANITEOWL:

Have any of you used the MYTHIC Tarot, or the workbook on same?

DeathDesire:

i use barbara walker..

PANITEOWL:

Me DD

Nestor:

I have used it but don't have it handy

DeathDesire:

ok PA

mm modrn

PANITEOWL:

OK, Basically, the Workbook was developed by Juliet Sharman-Burke, co-author of the Mythic Tarot

Modrnwitch:

MM Death

Red Deer:

use Rider Waite, PA

PANITEOWL:

Although I use the Ryder-Waite Deck, I found the Workbook of the Mythic, helpful in defining the "Tools" of the trade.

Cathbad:

I used one quite a ways back. I don't remember the name, but it was printed sometime in the seventies.

PANITEOWL:

Excuse spelling tonight, this is LIVE TYPING RD ..

Red Deer:

LOL

DeathDesire:

:::::::::::raises arm::::::::::LOL uh..

PANITEOWL:

First printing on this Cath was 1986

PANITEOWL:

DD?

Cathbad:

OK. Wasn't that, then.

DeathDesire:

if i don't have anyone to do readings on ...how can i improve?

Red Deer:

Rider Waite and Thoth were both out back then

PANITEOWL:

Read for yourself DD

DeathDesire:

all the time?

Red Deer:

do you ritual alone, DD?

DeathDesire:

don't do any rituals....yet

PANITEOWL:

Anyway ... The workbook has specific procedures which help you to focus on the individual cards. For those of us who are visual learners, it is an excellent exercise. Each card is depicted in black & white, you are to color the cards as you see fit. There is no schematic.

DeathDesire:

i started with RW deck and now have a different...having hard time transferring memory..

Red Deer:

I like the idea of working out the colors

PANITEOWL:

Based on your own interpretations, you begin to perceive the backgrounds, and the minutiae of each of the cards

Red Deer:

as a matter of fact, I like designing own cards

DeathDesire:

could it be that this deck is not for me?

Cathbad:

Does anyone know anything of the Robin Wood deck?

PANITEOWL:

Yes RD ... The colors of interpretation are encouraged

Cathbad:

It could, DD.

Cathbad:

I thought the RW deck was quite beautiful.

DeathDesire:

no cath except that they are suppose to be beautiful..

Modrnwitch:

:::::::::raises arm, for question:::::::

PANITEOWL:

Although I disagree with some of the interpretations of the MYTHIC Tarot ... it did help me to decipher my own RW deck

PANITEOWL:

Modrn???

Modrnwitch:

Is not the base symbolism in all of the decks essentially the same?

DeathDesire:

i had no prob deciphering RW deck .....just wanted more intense imagery

PANITEOWL:

Yes, but each has it's own spin

Modrnwitch:

thank you

DeathDesire:

that's for sure..

Cathbad:

Sorry, when I said RW, I meant Robin Wood. No confusion intended. :

PANITEOWL:

Like two people reading a novel, each remembers or comments on a different aspect, because that is their particular focus

DeathDesire:

)

PANITEOWL:

All is left to the interpretation of the reader or the creator of the deck.

DeathDesire:

PA when you do a reading do you go on vibe alone or use a book or both?

Red Deer:

Books help to start, DD...but the best readings you'll do come from your gut

PANITEOWL:

Some decks, are explained by their creators in such a way that it is obvious they are trying to salve others possible objection

DeathDesire:

so true Red

PANITEOWL:

Purists who use only Egyptian Tarot will tell you it is the original deck proceeding from the Cabala ... therefore ... the last word

DeathDesire:

what about witches tarot?

DeathDesire:

has anyone seen it?

Red Deer:

However, Egyptian civilization is older than the Hebrew KBH

PANITEOWL:

As I have said before, the Tarot is only a tool.... symbols of the craft

Modrnwitch:

::::::another question::::::::

PANITEOWL:

Modrn?

Modrnwitch:

Well, if all of the base symbolism is essentially the same(given room for spin), then does it really matter what deck is used?

Modrnwitch:

Is it not the intuitive

Modrnwitch:

interpretation

Modrnwitch:

of the reader, which is the determination?

PANITEOWL:

Not really Modrn, but for "Newbies", it is confusing

Modrnwitch:

Not really....

DeathDesire:

PA are we solely talking tarot or other tools also?

Modrnwitch:

meaning not really matters which deck is used

Modrnwitch:

?

PANITEOWL:

What I liked about the workbook, was that you were required to look deeply into the aspect of the card.

PaleHawk:

May I interject something here PA?

PANITEOWL:

As you studied the objects themselves, you got a better understanding of the meanings & symbols portrayed.

Red Deer:

I think it does matter, Modrn...different decks follow different threads...you'll do better with one that's closer to your path than one that's not

PANITEOWL:

When you read yourself, you develop your own interpretation. Right RD ... Pale ...you had a comment?

PaleHawk:

Also..... I sincerely believe that the more you learn concerning such objects as Tarot you can go in depth and develop more

PANITEOWL:

It is interesting to see how different decks differ, and what things are universal. Good comment Pale ... I agree

Red Deer:

Agreed, Pale

PANITEOWL:

There are few shortcuts in learning any craft, and very few mechanisms out there for the study of the use of the Tarot

Red Deer:

That's why I wound up designing my own deck...it fits MY vision of the Great Myth

PaleHawk:

{s} many interpret one card say the High Priestess in many many ways and the only way one can be comfortable finding their own meaning is to read and learn others

Red Deer:

Now, i just gotta get um painted!

PANITEOWL:

RD

Red Deer:

Any artistes out there?

PANITEOWL:

Yes Pale, just as there are many religions within a "RELIGION"

PaleHawk:

{{{{ PA }}}}}

PANITEOWL:

You can study a Guide Line ... but you yourself must absorb & feel comfortable with your belief. Blindly following another's lead, does not make you a believer .. just a follower

Red Deer:

Well said, PA!

PANITEOWL:

Studying all aspects of the intent... that's hard to do. Most study, trying to find those kernels of truth that bolster what they already believe. Objective study is often criticized

Red Deer:

Tarot may be not only compared with itself but with the Ogham or the runes and with the Great Myth through the spokes of the Wheel

PANITEOWL:

But I find that once your study leads you to a realization of yourself, and your belief, then it can never be taken from you

Now, back to the workbook

Red Deer:

<---following PA

PANITEOWL:

Although the author does put her own "spin" on how you should interpret, (after all, she designed the cards with purpose), that does not mean you can not develop your own interpretations as you study, & handle the cards. When using the deck of your choice, your own exercises encouraged by the workbook, will prove beneficial

Nestor:

what are some of the exercises PA?

Red Deer:

Yup, PA...I find several of my interpretations at odds with some of the authorities, but they've served me well

PANITEOWL:

For those wishing to learn the Tarot, it creates a system of learning and absorbing the symbolism of the cards.

aphreal 2:

<<}sucks at Tarot reading

Midnight One:

me too

Red Deer:

and the symbols are the key to getting out of the ordinary frame of reference, and into the reading

PANITEOWL:

As I said before, first, the cards are in black & white... You involve yourself in the coloring. Therefore, you study, & retain the impression of the symbols. The exercise continues by asking you to expand upon the card & place it's meaning in a situation of familiarity

Nestor:

have you ever use the 'walking the tree' technique of learning the cards?

aphreal 2:

Expand upon the card and place?

PANITEOWL:

No Nestor, could you explain? Yes Aph

aphreal 2:

Could you clarify that, PA?

PANITEOWL:

For instance, The Fool ... some interpret that as a simple card, but I believe it is very complex

Red Deer:

the most, PA

Nestor:

ok yous literally lay out the cards on the floor with the small cards as the sephria and the trumps as the paths -- and as you work your way up the tree you mediate on their interconnected nature and how each leads to the next

Red Deer:

very interesting, Nestor

Nestor:

if your have four decks of the same type then you set them up for the 4 worlds

Red Deer:

years ago, I spent a year and a day studying the cards one at a time in their proper connection to the Myth

PaleHawk:

Nestor................ would you only use the Major Arcana though right?

PANITEOWL:

OH .. Yes Nestor ... but the workbook idea leads up to that by taking you through the individual meanings, THEN laying them out in relative paths on the side by Kether you set up the court cards as the matrix of the elements no you use each card disk for the earth and the lowest of the four worlds, then swords for the next one up, then cups for water, then wands for fire each case the trump with cover the path between the sephria give it new meaning you are physically moving up the planes as you do this technique

PANITEOWL:

Yes Nestor ... the workbook does lead one to that procedure, but starts out in very tiny steps, so that there are no quantum leaps

Red Deer:

I'm sorta connected to laying out the Major as the Wheel with the minor as the spokes, and studying their cyclical connections

Nestor:

yes RD that is good excellent when you use the astrological connection to the small cards

Red Deer:

PA???

PANITEOWL:

What I found, was that it made me rethink, & clarify some ambiguities that had bothered me I found this book 2 years ago, but had been reading Tarot for 20 years ....

Nestor:

which were they PA?

PANITEOWL:

It made me realize that some of my interpretations were a bit limited, since I was looking for specifics

Red Deer:

Mythic Tarot

PANITEOWL:

It also helped me to trust the inner messages I received while casting

Nestor:

PA --what else do you use the cards for beside divination?

PANITEOWL:

The "connections" became stronger, the more I studied in another field ...don't laugh, Nestor ....comfort. And I do talk to them

Nestor:

not laughing at all -- really like that idea

PANITEOWL:

To me, they have life, as an entity ... sometimes a conscience

Nestor:

YES

Red Deer:

Indeed, they were my first connection to the path

PANITEOWL:

I seldom read if I get a bad vibe from my deck

Red Deer:

Things the cards said to me, when I was still a Christian, sent me seeking

PANITEOWL:

They have to be willing to look into a person, and if the cards are reluctant, they do let me know

Red Deer:

The RW, and an old gypsy

PANITEOWL:

Also, if they are unwilling to cast for me personally, I usually take the time to center ... and wait for something I'm not really going to like I can not understand how readers can sit in a booth for hours & continually read indiscriminately

Nestor:

Blessed Be Mc Cara MY Sister and Herne MY Brother - PA is speaking on the tarot with some wonderful insights

PaleHawk:

Please PA go on

Red Deer:

PA, I can't either

PANITEOWL:

Actually Nestor, I hadn't intended to do that. I just would like to make others aware that there is material out there, so each can learn to use their tools to the best of their ability

Red Deer:

read for hours, yes...for a multitude of strangers for hours, no

Nestor:

brb

Mc Cara:

k

PANITEOWL:

Yes RD ... I would not abuse my deck or myself like that

Mc Cara:

How long have you've been reading, PA?

PANITEOWL:

To me that is a misuse of magic

PaleHawk:

{--- that is why I can not be a reader in New Age as well

Red Deer:

I appreciate the order of that statement PA

PANITEOWL:

McCara ... about 30 years now, give or take a few {g}

PaleHawk:

LOL PA Mc Cara: Wow... Long time.. I am learning now for about a year

PANITEOWL:

OK OK ... give more than a few PALE

Herne:

There's no quota on how many readings you have to do though, I am told

PaleHawk:

heheehehhehe

PaleHawk:

<---- mother taught me with an original deck when I was about 5....

PANITEOWL:

Have you changed in your interpretations Pale?

Herne:

Waite deck Pale?

PaleHawk:

Oh yes................ big time

PANITEOWL:

{g}... see what I mean?

PaleHawk:

not the Waite back then the original deck was a deck of cards

Red Deer:

The craft persists, no matter the symbols

PANITEOWL:

Yes, Pale ... at one time that was all that was allowed by law

PaleHawk:

<---- Mom always taught me to hide what we knew

PANITEOWL:

So Grows the Solitary Way Pale

PaleHawk:

exactly PA

Herne:

No Tarot decks allowed by law, when was this?

Mc Cara:

True -I had my deck out once and my ex-husband's sister came over and they sat there telling me how "evil" I was..

PANITEOWL:

At one time it was unlawful to be seen or caught with a deck that included the Major Arcana ... so the 52 cards for "games" were developed ... as long as they were not used in magic

Herne:

I had to wait 15years for Crowley's Thoth deck to come out

PANITEOWL:

The resurgence of the Tarot has indeed been phenomenal, given the fact that most of the teaching associated with the Major Arcana were forbidden

Well RD ... guess that's enough for tonight ... hopefully we've generated some food for thought ... what say you?

The workbook is still in print through LLewellyn

Red Deer:

Great PA...thanks so much for leading us.

Herne:

Paul Foster Case' "The Tarot" is excellent, what relation does the study of the QBL have to the Craft?

Nestor:

it was interesting when I was at Eleusis the other month, when I was in the Teleastron ( the hall of the mysteries ) the thought of the Hierophant keep coming to mind

really enjoy your discussion PA

Mc Cara:

Sorry I missed most of it PA

PANITEOWL:

Thanks Nestor

Red Deer:

Next week, Michael Thorn on networking & resources

PANITEOWL:

S ok McCara ... we'll do this again sometime

Herne:

The cards, where do they come from? Are they mainly just meant for divinatory purposes?

Mc Cara:

When Red?

Red Deer:

12 Noon ET on Sunday

Nestor:

Herne there are other things that the card scan be used for

Nestor:

like focal points in magic

Mc Cara:

MM Kakotakid

Herne:

Do you use them ever in Magick Nestor?

Willowwind:

Red Deer will you add these transcripts to the Internet records, I missed most of it

Nestor:

a point of invocation of the associated spirit of the spehria or element

Red Deer:

Will post on the BB and on the WWW
