Carolina H.O.P.E., an outreach of
Pregnancy
Support Services, is a student-led Christian organization dedicated
to assisting individuals facing the challenges of unplanned pregnancy,
encouraging sexual abstinence outside of marriage, and educating individuals
regarding the consequences of sexually transmitted diseases and other health
concerns. Carolina H.O.P.E. will provide full membership to all students
regardless of race, sex, national origin, religion, handicap, sexual orientation,
age or veteran status. Students considering leadership positions must
be willing to sign, in good conscience, and adhere to the Statement of Faith
and Principle.
Goals and Objectives
- Equip individuals with information about the possible consequences
of sex outside marriage (physical, emotional, and spiritual)
- Encourage students to explore the advantages of saving sex for marriage
- Provide activities that support students who are pregnant or parenting
- Provide strategic planning for healthy abstinent relationships
Plan for Accomplishment
- Host regular opportunities for group discussions related to sexually
transmitted diseases, abstinence, pregnancy, healthy dating and relationships
- Train students to become peer counselors for their surrounding communities
and campus organizations
- Provide programs for other students and residence halls
- Conduct presentations for campus events, local youth groups and middle/high-school
classrooms
- Provide opportunities for student leaders to attend national abstinence
conferences to bring back current information for the students
- Connect students to opportunities of public service with PSS in their
Chapel Hill and Durham offices
- Raise the visibility on campus for H.O.P.E.’s mission through use
of flyers, handouts, pit sits, etc.
Role of Advisor
- The faculty advisor is chosen because he/she can be a positive
role model for students in the areas this organization wants to address and
will serve as consultant to the group. The organization will use the
advisor’s guidance and experience, but students will be responsible for all
planning and decision making.
