Building on the enormous success of previous Youth & Race conferences, this year's 2-day colloquium will focus on the racial achievement gap that is continuing to affect minority youth in education. Conference presenters will examine what new trends are emerging from more recent scholarship on the question. Are internal mechanisms and attitudes the main reason for the persistence of the educational achievement gap? Or are structural mechanisms the source of educational outcome disparities? This conference will also feature programs across North Carolina and the United States that have had positive results in closing the gap.
Pre-registration is highly encouraged. For additional information, please contact Mikhaela Houston, IAAR Program Coordinator, 919.962.0977 or mikhaela {at} unc {dot} edu.
