Dear Prospective Members,

Independent Defense Counsel is an independent student organization at UNC-Ch who believes that all students accused of Honor Code violations have the right to a fair trial and a proper defense.  Since an Honor Court conviction has serious consequences for the student, the Independent Defense Counsel is dedicated to ensuring that all accused students are treated fairly and correctly under the guidelines set forth in the Instrument of Student Judicial Governance of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Here is what we are looking for:

  • Journalism and Mass Communications, Advertising, and PR majors to help with IDC Advertising committee and publicity

  • Art background to help with advertising designs

  • Political Science and History majors interested in law

Here is what you can expect from the IDC experience:

§          great leadership and creativity opportunities

§          friendly co-counsels

§         invovlement with Honor Court and its proceedings as well as the greater UNC-Ch community

§         and valuable experiences in refining arguments, logical reasoning, and other skills if  you plan to attend Law School

Independent Defense Counsel (IDC) traditionally holds interest meetings during the midway point of the semester with training to follow. Please refer to the website in the upcoming weeks if you are interested.

If you would like to be a part of the group before training (working with outreach, advertising, etc.), you are more than welcome to attend any of our regular Thursday meetings. However, training will be required to work on any Honor Court cases.

For more information, please send an email to idc@unc.edu or contact one of our staff members individually.

                                                                            Thanks,
                                                                           Tim Lehan (Former President)
