The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources in conjunction with Duke University Marine Laboratory (DUML), the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Institute of Marine Science (UNC- IMS), and the NC-DOT Ferry Division commissioned the FerryMon project. [click here to see the list of people involved with this project] In 2006, Albemarle Sound and FerryMon were chosen as one of the CUAHSI WATERS test bed sites. In conjunction with this, the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Environmental Engineering & Technology (EET) Program granted FerryMon funds to enhance real-time detection and quantification of key water quality indicators, and improve data management and outreach capabilities.
