Gerace Research Center

The Gerace Research Center (formerly the Bahamian Field Station) is located on San Salvador Island, Bahamas, about 400 southeast of Miami and 150 miles southeast of Nassau. San Salvador is an excellent location for studying carbonate geology, reef ecology, tropical biology, and archaeology. Every year, hundreds of students, teachers, and researches visit the GRC for various projects and classes. The GRC is a former U.S. Navy tracking station that was abandoned in the 1960s. Students are housed in dormitories that were the former barracks. Faculty are housed in the old officers quarters. Three meals are provided daily in a cafeteria. The food is simple, but features some excellent Bahamian influences. There is lab space, a conference room, and running seawater. The GRC also has a fleet of vans and trucks that may be used for transportation about the island. For more information contact:
