Dedicated in 2004, the Stone Center houses classrooms, a library, an art gallery and museum, an auditorium, offices, space for visiting scholars/artists and a dance studio. More than 95 percent of the Center’s cost was met through private gifts, contributed by more than 1,500 donors. The structure honors the late Dr. Sonja Haynes Stone, who joined the faculty in 1974 as director of the Curriculum in Afro-American Studies.
