Internet Impact serves as a forum for interdisciplinary investigations on two fronts:
The group has focused discussions on specific topics or readings and sponsors lectures. The particular topics for each semester are determined by participants. Possible topics include: online surveys, transaction log analysis for WWW usage, content analysis of email, collaborative research, scholarly communication, issues surrounding public and private information, emergent dysfunctions such as identity theft and electronic addictions, and digital government. One goal of the group is to serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary research projects. Internet Impact is open to all interested faculty, staff, and students.
Internet Impact meetings are held monthly on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. - 12 noon. Announcements of meeting topics and locations are sent to the Internet Impact listserv.
Novmber Meeting
What are the principles of good design (both usability and survey design) for Web-delivered surveys? The NC Health Info project at the Health Sciences Library has recently created a new Web survey. Developing the survey has proven much more challenging than we initially anticipated. Terri Buckner (evaluator), Christie Silbajoris (project coordinator), and Jen O'Bryan (programmer) will share their experiences with adapting survey design principles for Web delivery; applying usability standards to survey design; programming challenges; and meeting IRB requirements.
When: 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 17,
Where: 102 Abernathy
