The Japan Club is a student organization at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which has been founded for the purpose of providing both Japanese and American students the opportunity to explore each other's cultures. Our objectives are to carry out cultural, social, and academic events to benefit all members. In order to fulfill our goals and objectives, we adopt a dual-benefit system, where American students have the opportunity to learn about Japanese culture and Japanese students have the opportunity to learn about American culture.
We shall also encourage the use of Japanese and English among students from both nations through Japanese language table meetings and through culture meetings conducted in English. This makes students studying Japanese and Japanese exchange students a vital part of our organization.
Executive members of the organization include the Co-Presidents and the committee of Vice-Presidents. The Co-Presidents will act as the chief organizers and direct the committee, whose collective responsibility is the organization of each bi-weekly activity.
The role of advisor, Ms. Yuki Aratake, is to guide us with her knowledge of and experience in Japanese cultural events, the local Japanese community, and the language.
Membership is open to all undergraduates and graduate students of UNC-CH as well as any community members. Both membership and participation in the group's activities shall not be restricted in regard to race, color, religion, national origin, disability, age, veteran status, sexual orientation, or gender. A majority of the organization's membership shall always be UNC-CH students.
