Connections to Japan at UNC-CH

Asian Studies Department - website
The Asian Studies Department (and its website) is your best bet for finding information about upcoming Japanese language and culture classes, Japan-related events, and the wonderful, extremely knowledgeable faculty and staff. The department is physically located in the newly renovated New West; if you stop by be sure to poke your head in Room 113 and tell Lori Harris that Sally Beth says, "Hi!"

Carolina Judo Club
The Carolina Judo Club is "open to all students wishing to learn Kodokan Judo." Not much else is known about this mysterious martial-arts organization. You'll have to look them up on the student organizations page and contact their primary contact for more information.

Carolina Kendo Club - website
The Carolina Kendo Club is part of the Triangle Kendo & Iaido organization which also provides kendo practices at the other school and NCState. They meet on the UNC-CH campus on Wednesdays at 6:00pm for two hours in the Women's Gym Studio A (which is in the back of Woollen.)

Carolina Otaku Uprising (more commonly known as COUP) - website
The UNC-CH anime club. There's some overlap between our members and their members, and they're always showing something or other that's interesting if you're into cartoons. They meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-10:00pm.

UNC-CH Shotokan Karate - website
The UNC-CH Shotokan Karate Club aims to "promote in its members the development of the spirit of karate, skills useful for self-defense, as well as a sense of integrity, courtesy, and a respect for others through the systematic and earnest study of karate-do." They meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00pm in Woollen Gym Studio B for two hours.

More Connections Coming! Do you have a club that's related to Japan? Let us know! Open to all cultural, physical (aka martial arts), and random clubs that have to do with Japan.
