CURRICULUM, MUSIC, AND COMMUNITY | PROJECT OVERVIEW

Plan for project sustainability

THE CMC PROJECT TOUCHES THE LIVES of teachers, students, artists, and communities. There are three elements of the CMC project that have been intentionally designed to promote sustainability.

  1. Connection to curriculum. The CMC project is about weaving local music into the core disciplines of the standard course of study. Through curriculum integration, the arts will be drawn into the central work of each participating school, rather than marginalized as special, but infrequent, events.
  2. Connection to local musicians. The artists and schools in this project are neighbors who share the daily life of their communities. Through this local connection, the relationships developed through the CMC can be sustained and strengthened once established.
  3. Connection to community. Local music is an art form that teachers and students can share with their families and friends. Community support and understanding of the CMC project will help to sustain it as a permanent feature of public school curricula.
