Finding traditional artists

STATE AND LOCAL ARTS COUNCILS can provide valuable expertise and information to teachers interested in finding local artists. Below are links to the Arts Councils involved in the CMC Project.

In addition, CMC teachers offer the following suggestions for finding artists in your community. It is particularly important that teachers explore local talent. Using community members bridges cultural and generational gaps and carries the potential of validating traditions in the community.

  • other artists
  • parents and community
  • community surveys
  • students
  • regional folklorists
  • statewide artist rosters
  • university folklore departments
