CURRICULUM, MUSIC, AND COMMUNITY | MAKE YOUR OWN MUSIC

Incorporating music that expresses faith

TEACHERS EXPRESS CONCERN about parents who may feel that their child will be taught alternative beliefs through music. Some parents may feel that they are being challenged or that their authority or their faith is in jeopardy. Here are some ways to address those concerns and prevent problems from arising.

  • Send a letter home explaining the goals and objectives for the topic — relate it back to the Standard Course of Study.
  • Discuss and present faith music as a musical style that is part of a culture — not in terms of religion, but in terms of how as a tradition it can bind people of a culture or community together.
  • Present faith through the study of "Systems of Beliefs."
