If Linguistics is your first major:
Rising juniors and seniors DO need to get your registration PIN from the undergraduate advisor, Dr. Jennifer Smith, before you can register for classes.
Rising freshmen and sophomores can access their own PIN online, so they don't need to get it from Linguistics. However, they are still encouraged to get in touch with the undergraduate advisor to discuss their choice of courses for the major.
If Linguistics is your second major or your minor:
You won't need to get a registration PIN from the Linguistics department. However, you are still strongly encouraged to get in touch with the undergraduate advisor to confirm that you are on track for graduation with a major or minor in Linguistics. This is especially important if you are a (rising) senior, but it's a good idea for anybody. Many of our courses are only offered once per year, so it's important to plan ahead.
To get your registration PIN, or just discuss your progress in the program, you can either send an e-mail or sign up for a face-to-face meeting.
(a) E-mail consultation. You can send an e-mail to the undergraduate advisor, Dr. Jennifer Smith, listing the Linguistics courses that you plan to register for. Jen will check your records and make sure you're on track for graduation as far as the major or minor is concerned. If everything is in order, Jen will e-mail you your PIN (if you need one). Or, if there is something you might need to discuss, she will ask you for a follow-up e-mail or a face-to-face meeting.
(b) Face-to-face meeting. Each semester, starting 1~2 weeks before Early Registration begins, there will be a sign-up sheet posted on the door of the undergraduate advisor's office where you can sign up for an appointment time. You can also e-mail the undergraduate advisor to set up an appointment at a time that is convenient for you.
During times of active registration advising (typically October and March), this web page will announce that a sign-up sheet for advising appointments is posted on Jen's office door, Dey 322.
You can also drop in during Jen's regular office hours, which are [TBA for Fall 2008].
If these times are not possible for you, please contact Jen to make other arrangements.

outside of the Linguistics major/minor, such as Perspective
requirements, contact
Academic Advising.
In Advising Team 95,
we recommend that you talk to one of the two full-time advisors,
Cheryl Junk or Barbara Lucido. (The part-time advisors are less
familiar with the Linguistics program.)
