As members of our Sorority we are bound by sacred traditions,
unique to Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc.,that
serve as the foundation for a lifetime support system that extends across a
spectrum of experiences, from the youngest undergraduate to professional
Hermanas. This Hermandad (sisterhood) is the means by which we support each
other personally, academically, and professionally. It provides members of
our organization the opportunity to share common experiences, while benefiting
from each other's distinct perspectives. We seek to nurture personal growth
and development in our members. Our motto, “La Hermandad Nunca
Termina”, is representative of our lifetime commitment to each
other and the special sisterhood we share.
No words on paper (or website!) however can best represent what
Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/ Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. is better than
our Hermanas. We highly encourage you to get to know them to learn what makes
this Sorority so special to us. Although nothing is better than in-person
contact, we hope the stories of our national awards recipients and our
Hermana narratives bring you a step closer to getting to know us and who
knows, maybe even taking that first step towards our Hermandad.

Hermana Narratives
“Why did you pledge Lambda Pi Chi?”
What a simple yet complex question to answer. Everyone asks this
question, and everyone who becomes an Hermana has a unique and beautiful
answer. Here are the stories of some of our chapter Hermanas who graciously
took the time to give some insight into this question. For their
contribution, we thank them. For the heart and soul that they reveal within
their words is in part why we all joined Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/
Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc.

“What makes Latinas
Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Incorporated so special? I can answer that question by focusing on
our three ideals: La Comunidad, La
Cultura Latina, and La Hermandad. I
first became interested in the Sorority because of all the community service
that I saw they perform. There are so
many people out there who need help, so many people who just need one person
to look in their direction and give them a hand. Knowing that I could be bonded with other
women who had the same dedication to the community spurred me to look more
into the Sorority and what it was all about.
Another one of our ideals is La
Cultura Latina, the Latin culture. As
a Spanish major and living in a state with one of the highest growing Latino
populations (NC), I have become more aware of the Latin culture. While it cannot specifically be defined,
its energy and vibrancy is beautiful and captivating. Plus, rising issues facing the growing population
of Latinos in
And last, but by no means the
least, our beautiful Hermandad. The
feeling of Hermandad cannot even be translated directly into English to the
word ‘sisterhood.’
Hermandad means that I can depend on these women for a shoulder to
lean on. It means I will always have
someone to cry to, someone to laugh with, and someone to share time with for
the rest of my life. Hermandad is
knowing that I can call someone I haven’t spoken to in years and be
able to speak to them as if I saw they just yesterday. Hermandad is knowing that I can call an
Hermana that I have never even met and ask her for advice. Hermandad is just a beautiful, sacred bond that
we all hold between us.
So in this short amount of space
I have attempted to sum up my feelings for the Sorority, but it is by no
means all that we are about. I love
this Sorority, and I have never at any given moment regretted my decision to
learn more about it.”
