Jennifer Pan
Jennifer Pan isn’t your average UNC-Chapel Hill junior.
She’s a health policy and management major in the Gillings School of Global Public Health, she is the president of her club field hockey team, she works as a research assistant in the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and she is the executive council president for club sports at UNC.
How does she handle it all?
“Good question. I sometimes wonder this myself,” Pan said, “I live and breathe Google docs.”
But Pan not only juggles all of her tasks, she really commits herself to them. Pan, who came to Carolina from Greensboro, N.C., was elected to president of her field hockey team during her sophomore year and knew that this meant making field hockey her priority.
“I think my priorities have definitely changed after undertaking the role of president, which means that I spend less time doing the other activities that I’m involved in. If I’m going to be president, I knew that I could make more of an impact and produce a better outcome for the team if I allotted more time to field hockey,” Pan said.
And to make an impact is exactly why she became president of club sports. Pan said she knew this opportunity would allow her to bring more service opportunities to club sports.
“I take the position very seriously and consider it like an extension of my responsibilities as president of the club field hockey team except on a larger level,” said Pan.
Along with giving a lot to club sports, Pan said she has also gained a lot.
“It’s amazing now that I reflect back on it. I feel like I have matured as a result of being held accountable for the entire team and not just myself, and I couldn`t have learned that in a classroom.”
