Pre-Orientation FAQ

What is Pre-Orientation (Pre-O)? Pre-Orientation is an additional opportunity for students to ensure a successful transition to the Carolina campus through a series of activities that assists with establishing a network of peer support and familiarity with important academic, social, and cultural supports.

How do I register? Pre-Orientation will be August 15-18, 2008. You will receive an invitation to register for Pre-O in the mail by the end of July. If you do not receive an invitation by then or have any questions, please contact the Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at 919-843-6086.

How much does it cost to attend Pre-O? There are no fees or charges associated with Pre-Orientation.

What's the difference between Pre-O and C-TOPS? Both programs enable students to learn more about the Carolina community, however Pre-O specifically targets underrepresented students to prepare them for a successful entry into their first year of college.

If I am attending the August C-TOPS (for first-year students or T-SOPS (for transfer students) can I also attend Pre-O? You may participate with Pre-Orientation after you complete your CTOPS/T-SOPS session. Remember, you must complete CTOPS/T-SOPS to register for your classes. Please notify us if you are scheduled to do so and we will arrange for a Pre-Orientation Counselor to meet you when your required sessions have concluded.

If I am attending Carolina Kickoff can I also attend Pre-O? Yes. Please notify us if you plan to attend Carolina Kickoff and we will arrange for a Pre-Orientation Counselor to meet you when Carolina Kickoff concludes.

If I attend Pre-O when do I move in to my residence hall/Granville Towers?  Arrangements have been made for you to move into your permanent UNC campus housing or Granville Towers on Friday, August 15 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Can my parents attend Pre-O? Absolutely! We have arranged special sessions for parents to give them an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the Carolina community.
