Diversity Education

Background on the Diversity Education

In 2007, DMA established the Diversity Education Team (DET). The DET was formed as a result of data gathered in the 2005 Diversity Assessment which suggested that there were not sufficient opportunities for faculty, staff and students to receive relevant and effective diversity education. Its mission was to develop diversity awareness in student, faculty and staff communities, and promote safe and productive dialogue around issues of diversity and inclusion through education and training. Facilitators from the DET offered diversity training to students, staff, and faculty. The DET also offered a Diversity Advocate Certificate which required attending a Diversity 101 class, additional diversity events on campus and and an essay on experiences of diversity.
