The
North Carolina Journal of International Law and Commercial Regulation is a student-run legal
journal at the University
of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Now in its thirty-first
year of publication, the Journal is dedicated to stimulating the
intellectual climate through legal scholarship in the area of
international law. In order to achieve this goal, the Journal
publishes four issues each year that include writings from academics,
professionals, and students. Recognizing the need to foster discussion
of international law in the general public discourse, the Journal
holds an annual symposium that focuses on important issues in
international law and brings together the entire legal community for an
illuminating discussion and debate.
The
North Carolina Journal of
International Law and Commercial Regulation was prominently
featured in the World Bank’s recently
released discussion paper on odious debt, entitled “The
Concept of Odious Debt: Some Considerations.” We were honored to receive such
recognition, and would like to thank all of our distinguished guests
for their contributions to our February symposium “Odious Debt:
Exploring the Outer Limits of Sovereign Debt Relief.” For more information on that
symposium, and for information about our Summer 2007 odious debt
special issue, please click

This
November, the North Carolina
Journal of International Law and Commercial Regulation held its
eighth annual symposium, entitled Extraordinary
Rendition: The State Secrets
about the War on Terror. This
symposium addressed the legal propriety of extraordinary rendition, the
alleged practice of transferring suspected terrorists to foreign
governments where harsh interrogation methods can be used outside the
reach of United States law. A panel of
recognized experts from the United States and Europe addressed this
controversial issue from a variety of unique perspectives. The Journal was particularly proud to
host Judge David Sentelle of the United
States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, who provided the event’s
keynote speech. To listen to
Judge Sentelle’s speech, please follow
