Two Seniors Win Rhodes Scholarships

Two seniors won the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship and will pursue graduate studies at Oxford University. Elizabeth “Libby” Longino and Henry Spelman, both Morehead-Cain Scholars, were among 32 U.S. students selected. Overall, Carolina has produced 45 Rhodes Scholars – the second most among all top public research universities.

Senior captain Danielle Forword scored a dramatic game-winning goal to give Carolina a 3-2 win over No. 1 Maryland and secure the Tar Heels’ sixth NCAA championship in program history. Carolina finished the season 20-2 and claimed its second crown in the past three years.

Dorrance First Coach To Win 20 NCAA Titles in Single Sport

With a 1-0 victory over Stanford, women's soccer coach Anson Dorrance became the winningest coach in NCAA Division I history by capturing his 20th title in a single sport. The Tar Heels have won 20 of the 28 NCAA championships in women's soccer from 1982 to 2009.
