Carolina just dedicated the new Eve Marie Carson Garden. Named for the former student body president, the garden is located on Polk Place and is a place of honor for all students, past and future, who die before they graduate.

Carolina is one of six Presidential Awardees in President Obama's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest recognition for service learning and civic engagement on a campus. Students contributed more than 1 million hours of service working with over 150 community partners.

A new Carolina study that followed participants for 20 years shows both weight and risk for diabetes decreased for people in communities where fast food prices increased. The research, led by Nutrition Professor Barry Popkin, also showed when prices fell, consumption, weight and diabetes risks rose.

Alumnus Taylor Branch, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his history trilogy
about the civil rights movement, discusses his new book "The Clinton Tapes: Wrestling History with the President" with Chancellor Holden Thorp. Branch has donated his research materials to the Southern Historical Collection.

UNC has moved up to sixth on the Peace Corps' top 25 list of large schools producing volunteers. Seventy-eight alumni currently serve as Peace Corps volunteers. Peace Corps Director Aaron S. Williams recently visited campus and spoke to Carolina students.
