Carolina has a new plan to produce basic knowledge with the highest impact. “We want to create an environment where people feel comfortable taking risks and trying to address new problems,” says Chancellor Holden Thorp. “The goal is to engage everyone on campus, regardless of discipline.” “Innovate@Carolina: Important Ideas for a Better World” is a roadmap developed by alumni and friends, along with faculty and students. Carolina has raised more than $11 million toward a total $125 million goal to support the plan. |

2 Named Rhodes ScholarsSeniors Laurence Deschamps-Laporte and Steven Paul Shorkey Jr. have won Rhodes Scholarships. Both are Morehead-Cain Scholars. UNC has produced 47 Rhodes winners; 29 of the 32 winners since 1957 have been Morehead-Cain Program graduates. |
