Celebrate the Tar Heels
The Tar Heels have done it! Coach Roy Williams and the Carolina men's basketball team have earned Carolina's fourth NCAA national championship title with a hard-fought 75-70 victory over top-ranked Illinois in Monday night's title game in St. Louis.
Visit www.unc.edu, the main University Web page, for links to the Department of Athletics and the latest news about the Tar Heels' championship and its impact on campus, on Franklin Street (where an estimated 45,000 celebrated until the wee hours this morning) and beyond.
Final Four weekend and the lady Tar Heels' impressive run into the Elite Eight again put Carolina in the national spotlight and helped showcase a university that is proud to be among the leaders in American higher education. That was the sentiment of a University-sponsored advertisement appearing in today's edition of The Washington Post that celebrates recent Carolina academic accomplishments. With the NCAA championship trophy in hand, Coach Williams and the Heels are headed back to Chapel Hill for a victory celebration later today in the Dean E. Smith Center. Check out www.tarheelblue.com to relive the championship run that has put this year's 33-4 team in the history books.
