University comments on protest

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill today (April 4) issued the following statement following a campus protest about the recent arrest of an ARAMARK employee at a campus dining service facility:

"This is a personnel matter between a private contractor and one of its employees. The university contracts with ARAMARK Educational Services Inc. to operate our dining services program. The contract provides that ARAMARK must comply with all applicable federal, state and local laws, statutes, ordinances and regulations. Upon the request of the university, ARAMARK must provide evidence of such compliance.

While the university does not have direct oversight for ARAMARK employees, it is important that ARAMARK employees are treated fairly, in a non-discriminatory manner, and in compliance with applicable laws. At the chancellor's request, the Office of University Counsel will meet with ARAMARK representatives to ensure that ARAMARK is fulfilling its contractual obligations."
