Moeser to give second ‘State of the University’ speech Sept. 4

CHAPEL HILL -- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor James Moeser will give his second annual "State of the University" speech for the campus community Wednesday (Sept. 4) at 3 p.m. EST.

Moeser says he "will lay out my thoughts on where we stand and where we’re headed as a university."

The chancellor, who came to Carolina two years ago, started the new tradition of a "State of the University" speech last September. The speech will be held at 3 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Frank Porter Graham Student Union. Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.

The speech is expected to address issues including the budget and Carolina’s vision for the future: to be the nation’s leading public university. Major upcoming events for the campus include the public launch Oct. 11 of the Carolina First campaign, a multi-year private fund-raising effort to position Carolina as the nation’s leading public university.

Moeser’s first major campuswide speech came during his University Day installation on Oct. 12, 2000.
