Duke-UNC bus to resume service for 2003-2004

Chapel Hill -- The Robertson Scholars Program of Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill resumed its free express bus service between the two campuses Monday (Aug. 25), beginning its third year of service. The bus is offered at no charge to all members of both campus communities.

This year, Saturday bus hours have been extended to 11:30 p.m. Hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays, noon to 11: 30 p.m. on Saturdays, and noon to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays. The trip takes less than 30 minutes. Weekdays, a bus will leave each campus on the hour and the half hour from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Evenings and weekends, one bus will travel back and forth between the two. For a complete bus schedule, please visit www.robertsonscholars.org/bus. Buses run between Duke's West Campus bus stop at the Duke Chapel and UNC-Chapel Hill's Morehead Planetarium parking lot.

"We are very excited to be able to continue providing this service for faculty, staff and students at Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill," said Dr. Eric Mlyn, director of the Robertson Scholars Program. "Based on feedback from our riders, we decided to extend the Saturday hours. With the later ending time, we hope that more members of both university communities will be able to take advantage of the cultural, educational and social opportunities on their sister campus."

The Robertson Scholars Program was launched two years ago through a $24 million gift to the two universities by New York investment manager Julian H. Robertson Jr. and his wife, Josie Robertson. The program provides merit-based scholarships for approximately 30 students each year, half at Duke and half at UNC-Chapel Hill, and seeks to build ties between the two campuses.
