North Carolina Botanical Garden
hosting workshop for garden writers
CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina Botanical Garden at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill will host a workshop for writers Sept. 19 - 22 with
nationally acclaimed garden writers C. Colston Burrell and Lucy Hardiman.
The deadline for registration is Sept. 8, and space is limited to 25 participants
for the four-day workshop titled "Cultivating the Written Word: Creative
Garden Writing from Production to Publication." The cost is $695. The programs
will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the garden's Totten Center.
The workshop is designed to develop creative writing skills for aspiring garden
writers or others interested in learning more about the business of writing.
Published authors and garden writers, C. Colston Burrell and Lucy Hardiman,
will help guide participants through a variety of topics including finding a
writing voice, choosing subjects, self discipline and getting published.
Burrell is a garden designer, photographer, naturalist and award-winning writer.
His best-selling books include "Perennial Combinations" and Rodale's
All New Illustrated Encyclopedia of Perennials. Burrell is a contributing editor
to Horticulture magazine and writes for Fine Gardening, Landscape Architecture,
American Gardener and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
Hardiman is a popular garden writer, teacher and lecturer. She is a contributing
editor for Horticulture magazine, writes for Northwest Garden News, Fine Gardening
and Pacific Horticulture.
