UNC-Chapel Hill open; adverse weather policy in effect for employees

CHAPEL HILL -- The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will be open Friday (Dec. 6).

Classes for the fall semester concluded earlier this week. Tomorrow marks the beginning of the final examination period. Those examinations are being held unless cancelled by the faculty member. Any faculty member who cancels an 8 a.m. examination Friday is encouraged to reschedule it on Saturday at 8 a.m.

Campus offices will be open. Employees are reminded that the adverse weather policy (http://www.ais.unc.edu/hr/admin/advweath.htm) is in effect. Students and employees are urged to use caution concerning travel and the potential for falling tree limbs on campus.

The university is operating under condition I in its list of adverse weather notices. That means snow and ice has accumulated in the UNC employment area, causing some difficulty in travel for students and employees.

More information about the university’s operational status is available at www.unc.edu, the main university Web page, or at the Department of Public Safety Web site (http://www.dps.unc.edu/dps/). Employees also can call (919) 962-3951 for recorded information and announcements about schedule delays or closings. Similar information also is broadcast on the university’s Traveler's Information System, 1610 AM. Details on the condition of campus parking lots and the status of Chapel Hill Transit are available at the Department of Public Safety Web site (http://www.dps.unc.edu/dps/).
