Student reports robbery; police offer safety tips

CHAPEL HILL -- University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill police are warning the campus community to stay alert and take extra safety precautions in the wake of a robbery that occurred on the path between Avery Residence Hall and the Ehringhaus Athletic Field just after 2 a.m. today (Dec. 6).

A female UNC student reported being approached from behind by one male suspect. She was asked not to turn around and to drop her wallet, which contained $10 in cash and several personal items, according to campus police. No weapon was visible, and the victim was not harmed. No description of the suspect was available.

Public safety officials urged the university community to practice caution and follow the following safety tips.

UNC police ask anyone with information in connection with the case to call the department at 962-8100 or Chapel Hill – Carrboro – UNC Crimestoppers at 942 - 7515. All conversations are confidential; no one must identify themselves or appear in court
