UNC-Chapel Hill cancels remaining Monday classes; adverse weather policy in effect for employees

CHAPEL HILL - Afternoon and evening classes for students have been canceled for today (Feb. 17) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

University officials canceled classes until noon last night due to the winter storm sweeping the area yesterday. The decision about the rest of the day's classes was made this morning.

Campus offices will remain open for the rest of the day. Employees are reminded that the adverse weather policy is in effect. Employees also should use personal judgment in determining whether it is safe to report for work.

The university remains operating under condition II in its list of adverse weather notices. That means the UNC campus and employment area has experienced large accumulations of snow, ice, sleet or freezing rain.

More information about the university's operational status is available at the main university Web page, or by calling the Adverse Weather Hotline at (919) 843-1234 for recorded information. Similar information also is broadcast on the university's Traveler's Information System, 1610 AM. Details on the condition of campus parking lots and the status of Chapel Hill Transit are available at the Department of Public Safety Web site.
