High school principals invited to seminar on school media law

CHAPEL HILL -- N.C. high school principals are invited to a media law seminar April 4 in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Featured speakers will discuss scholastic press law history and updates, as well as media law issues for school administrators.

Speakers will include Mark Goodman, director of the Student Press Law Center in Arlington, Va., and Richard Johns, director of the international Quill & Scroll honorary society based at the University of Iowa.

Principals will receive a copy of Quill & Scroll’s updated booklet, "Principals’ Guide to Scholastic Journalism."

The seminar, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be in 305 Carroll Hall at UNC. Lunch will be covered by the registration fee of $50. The priority registration deadline is March 4. Principals may register online at www.jomc.unc.edu/executiveeducation/RegTempA.html.

The N.C. Scholastic Media Association, the state’s high school journalism organization, will sponsor the seminar.
