Country, Indian, Japanese music to be part of Thursday series

CHAPEL HILL -- Indian dancing, contemporary folk music and alternative country music all will be featured this spring at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s James M. Johnston Center for Undergraduate Excellence.
The free public performances continue the "Thursdays on the Terrace" series at the center, housed in the Graham Memorial Building near the Morehead Planetarium. The concerts begin at 11:30 a.m. in the John Lindsey Morehead II Lounge or outside on the Educational Foundation Terrace.
Upcoming concerts will be:
- Feb. 20 – Sarah Rae Peters, traditional Indian Bharatanatyam dancing.
- Feb. 27 – Jonathan Byrd, contemporary Southern folk music.
- March 20 – Bill and Libby Hicks, traditional string music.
- March 27 - Triangle Taiko, traditional drum music of Japan. The taiko drum is heard in Japanese drama, religious ceremonies and seasonal festivals.
- April 10 - $2 Pistols, alternative country music.
- April 24 - Steep Canyon Rangers, contemporary bluegrass.
