UNC professor to speak on healing aspects of laughter

CHAPEL HILL -- Dr. Henry R. Lesesne, a professor of medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will discuss "Laughter as Medicine" at the Ashe County Public Library in West Jefferson on Aug. 28.
The free discussion put on by the Friends of the Ashe County Public Library will begin at 11 a.m. in the library at 148 Library Drive. For more information, call 336-246-2041. Reservations are not required.
Lesesne, born in Atlanta and educated at Vanderbilt University and UNC, has been on the School of Medicine faculty since 1973. Lesesne’s research focuses on the human digestive system, but he has developed an interest in the spiritual aspects of health and healing. He travels to Kenya and Malaysia annually to conduct educational seminars for medical missionaries in those countries.
The talk was arranged by Carolina Speakers at UNC, a statewide outreach program. Since 1993, the program has brought more than 90 faculty members to business, civic and community groups. The speakers share their expertise on more than 150 topics, including 46 on North Carolina and the South.
