CHAPEL HILL -- The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) presented its 2003 CASE/Wealth ID Award for superior fund-raising performance to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on July 6 at its annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
Only Carolina and Harvard have won the award seven times in the past 10 years. Carolina has won more of the awards than any other public institution in the research/doctoral university category.
"Our development team is second to none in securing private gifts to advance the university and assist faculty, staff, students and programs," Chancellor James Moeser said. "Carolina has built a great track record in development over the years, and the Carolina First Campaign has inspired even greater involvement from our alumni and friends. We are grateful for our generous donors and we are honored by this national recognition for our work."
Schools do not apply for the award. Judging is based on fund-raising statistics from the previous three fiscal years submitted to the Council for Aid to Education. Judges select winners based on factors including growth in support, growth in the number of donors, impact of the 12 largest gifts and funds raised in relation to the number of alumni. The award recognizes institutions that show solid program growth, broad support and other indications of mature, well-maintained programs.
"CASE has once again recognized the generosity of our alumni, the dedication of our volunteers and the professionalism of the university’s development staff," said Matt Kupec, vice chancellor for university advancement. "Our greatest reward is securing private gifts to help make Carolina the nation’s leading public university, and we appreciate this recognition as we cross the midpoint of the Carolina First Campaign." In May the university reached the $1 billion mark in the $1.8 billion Carolina First Campaign, a multi-year effort to support Carolina’s vision of becoming the nation’s leading public university. Campaign gifts support faculty, students, departments, programs and building projects.
