UNC-CH to host public memorial service for Chancellor Michael Hooker on Friday

CHAPEL HILL -- A public memorial service to celebrate the life of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor Michael Hooker will be open to all at 11 a.m. Friday (July 2) in Memorial Hall.

Those planning to attend are advised to arrive early.

Public parking will be in the Swain and Hill lots off Cameron Avenue; the water tower and Carolina Inn lots off Pittsboro Street; and the Park Place lot at Boundary Street across from UNC Press. Overflow parking will be available at the P lot at the corner of Airport Road and Estes Drive. Shuttle buses will run between that lot and Memorial.

Hooker’s family will hold a private service.

In addition, the family will receive relatives, friends and members of the university community only from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday (June 30) at UNC-CH’s Ackland Art Museum, near the corner of Franklin and Columbia streets. Parking will be in the Swain, Hill and Hanes lots off Cameron Avenue, the Carolina Inn and water tower lots off Pittsboro Street and at the Morehead Planetarium off East Franklin Street.
