Stone Center will host performance
to benefit Our Children’s Place

CHAPEL HILL -- The Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will host a performance by Imani Winds on April 8.

All proceeds will benefit Our Children’s Place, a nonprofit organization that works to improve the lives of children of incarcerated mothers.

Imani Winds, an award-winning wind quintet, will perform in the center’s Cobb Theatre at 8 p.m. The group’s sound is a fusion of African, European and American music. Made up of members of African and Latin American heritage, the group has performed worldwide.

Our Children’s Place seeks to use pre-existing community resources to create a specialized living environment that would house program participants and allow children of non-violent offenders to live with their mothers in a monitored living environment.

Imani Winds recently received the first-place award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and Chamber Music America for adventurous programming of contemporary music.

Tickets for the concert are $35 for general admission and are available from the Carolina Union. To contact the box office, call (919) 962-1449.

For more information, contact the Stone Center at (919) 962-9001 or visit the Web site at http://www.ibiblio.org/shscbch/.
