Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, naturalist to speak
on diversity of species; lecture will be April 6 at UNC
CHAPEL HILL -- Dr. Edward O. Wilson, known for his groundbreaking work on biodiversity, will speak on April 6 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
His presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the Morehead Building banquet hall. UNC’s Morehead Planetarium and Science Center and the National Humanities Center are co-sponsoring the event.
A two-time Pulitzer Prize winner, Wilson is a research professor and honorary curator of entomology for Harvard University’s Museum of Comparative Zoology. He is recognized internationally for his research on species and his work as a naturalist. In 1996, Wilson was cited by Time magazine as one of America’s 25 most influential people.
Wilson will discuss the diversity of species on Earth and the ways in which naturalists, both amateur and professional, research this diversity. More than 1,000 people attended Wilson’s last presentation at UNC in spring 2004.
Although admission is free, seating is limited and reservations are required. Morehead Center members may register beginning Monday (March 21); the public may register beginning March 28. To register, call (919) 962-1236.
Wilson’s presentation is part of the Morehead Center’s Speaking of Science Series. More information is available at www.moreheadplanetarium.org.
