Anesthesiology professor to speak on understanding pain
CHAPEL HILL -- Dr. Philip Boysen, a professor of anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will speak about understanding and managing pain at 1:30 p.m. June 6 in Cary.
The public is invited to his free speech, "The Tragedy of Needless Pain," at the Cary Senior Center, 120 Maury O’Dell Place. This event is part of the Senior Center’s "Ask the Health Expert" series. Reservations are required; for more information, call 919-469-4081.
Boysen, who chairs the UNC Department of Anesthesiology, has written numerous articles and book chapters on anesthesia, pulmonary risk and sleep disorders. He will relate his research to the lay audience as he discusses recent advances in understanding pain and the applications of research to clinical medicine.
The talk was arranged by Carolina Speakers at UNC, a statewide outreach program. Since 1993, the program has brought more than 90 faculty members to business, civic and community groups. The speakers share their expertise on more than 150 topics, including 46 on North Carolina and the South.
