Moeser comments on Moore’s departure
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor James Moeser today (May 8) commented on Vice Chancellor Marian Moore’s decision to leave Carolina for a vice president post at Boston College. Boston College announced Moore’s appointment earlier today. (See http://www.bc.edu/bc_org/rvp/pubaf/02/moore_announce.html.)
"Under Vice Chancellor Moore, Carolina has become the leader in information technology among major public universities because of the success of the Carolina Computing Initiative, wireless technology deployment and other innovative programs. Her achievements here have made her an attractive target for other great universities.
"In the brief time I have been in Chapel Hill, two universities have attempted to recruit Marian. We have done everything we can this year to protect ourselves from additional suitors seeking her expertise, and I regret that those efforts were not successful. In a period of budget stagnation, Carolina is particularly vulnerable to other institutions that are seeking talented leaders. Carolina’s competition for outstanding faculty, staff and administrators will always be other top-tier universities, both public and private.
"I sincerely appreciate Marian’s invaluable contributions to this university and wish her well with this new opportunity."
