English professor to speak on North Carolina architecture
CHAPEL HILL -- Dr. Terry Zug, a retired English professor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will speak about North Carolina’s architectural heritage at 11 a.m. June 26 in West Jefferson.
The public is invited to his free speech, "Down Home: North Carolina Architecture," at the Ashe County Public Library, 148 Library Drive. The Friends of the Ashe County Public Library are hosting the talk. For more information call 336-246-2041.
Zug, who formerly chaired the UNC folklore curriculum, has studied North Carolina’s rich architectural and folk art heritage for 25 years. He wrote the book "Turners and Burners: The Folk Potters of North Carolina," which explores one of the state’s most important indigenous art forms.
The talk was arranged by Carolina Speakers at UNC, a statewide outreach program. Since 1993, the program has brought more than 90 faculty members to business, civic and community groups. The speakers share their expertise on more than 150 topics, including 46 on North Carolina and the South.
