Award presented to student veteran with highest grade-point average

CHAPEL HILL -- David Michael Fabrizio has earned the Veterans Academic Achievement Award at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for both the fall 1996 and spring 1997 semesters.

The award, presented at the annual Veterans Day Celebration by UNC-CH ROTC units Tuesday (Nov. 11), goes to the student veteran with the highest grade-point average. Fabrizio, a senior in the UNC-CH School of Nursing, will receive $100 for each semester. He maintains a perfect (4.0) GPA and has been on the dean's list every semester at UNC-CH.

Fabrizio graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1982 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1984. He achieved the rank of captain and served in the Infantry and Transportation Corps in Honduras, Korea and Germany. While in Germany, he served as Company Commander of the 501st Transportation Division.

A veteran of the Persian Gulf War, Fabrizio received Airborne Ranger qualification and is in the Individual Ready Reserves. He is a member of the National Association of Men in Nursing and hopes to work in the field of critical-care nursing.

Fabrizio is the son of Alice Fabrizio of Peabody, Mass.
