CHAPEL HILL -- "Diabetes and the Seven Deadly Sins" will be the title of a lecture in Elizabethtown Nov. 12 by Dr. John Buse, director of the Diabetes Care Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Buse will give the free public lecture Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Bladen County Public Library at 111 N. Cyprus St. Call (910) 862-6990 for more information.

Since his recruitment as director of the Diabetes Care Center in 1994, Buse has brought UNC to the forefront in diabetes management and has been a national leader in developing more effective treatments. He will discuss the failure of the health care system to deal with the disease and the barriers and opportunities that now exist for treatment and prevention of diabetes and its complications.

The lecture was arranged by Carolina Speakers at UNC. The outreach program brings more than 90 faculty members to business, civic and community groups across the state. The speakers share their expertise on more than 150 topics, including 46 that focus on North Carolina and the South.
