UNC Police arrest suspect in robbery of student Aug. 23
CHAPEL HILL – Police at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill today (Sept. 11) arrested a suspect in connection with the robbery of a student Aug. 23 on campus near Hamilton Hall.
Suspect Kim L. Johnson, 39, of 501 N.C. 54 South, Carrboro, was charged with one count of armed robbery, a felony, and one count of assault on a female, a misdemeanor, according to the arrest report by UNC Police Capt. Mark McIntyre.
Johnson was released on $20,000 unsecured bond and agreed to appear in Orange County District Criminal Court in Hillsborough at 9 a.m. Friday (Aug. 12).
The robbery victim, a UNC student, had told police that a man approached her and demanded her purse at about 2 a.m. Aug. 23 on a walkway between Hamilton and Caldwell halls. The man said he had a gun, but she did not see one. The victim was not injured.
