SUMMARY: UNC-Chapel Hill plans to be open Thursday.

UNC-Chapel Hill open; classes to be held

CHAPEL HILL – Based on current information from state and local emergency management officials about Hurricane Isabel and its possible impact, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hilll plans to operate on a normal schedule Thursday (Sept. 18th.)

Classes will be held for students, and campus offices will remain open. Employees also are reminded of the university’s adverse weather policy. Details about that policy are at http://www.ais.unc.edu/hr/spaman/section11/sec11-adverse.htm.

More information about the university’s status is available at www.unc.edu, the main university Web page, or the Department of Public Safety Web site http://www.dps.unc.edu/dps/.

Members of the university community also can call (919) 843-1234 for recorded information and announcements about campus operations. Similar information also is broadcast on the university’s Traveler's Information System, 1610 AM, near the main campus area. Details on the condition of campus parking lots and the status of Chapel Hill Transit are available at the Department of Public Safety Web site http://www.dps.unc.edu/dps/.

If conditions change, the university will communicate any decisions about its operations as quickly as possible.

The university uses three operating conditions in adverse weather: Condition I (open), Condition II (classes cancelled; offices open) or Condition III (classes cancelled; offices closed). Reports of state government closings do not apply to the University.
