CHAPEL HILL -- The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will host the fourth annual UNC Volunteer Fair to give students, faculty, staff and local citizens an opportunity to learn about service opportunities in the community.

Representatives from nearly 40 community agencies will be on hand Sept. 17 to answer questions and recruit interested volunteers. The fair will be held in the Pit, in front of UNC Student Stores, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Representatives from local service agencies recognize that UNC staff, faculty and students make excellent volunteers," said Chad Fogleman, program officer at the Carolina Center for Public Service, a fair organizer. "They like having the opportunity to come to campus, and it's a great way for people on campus to connect with agencies who need their service."

Agencies will provide information about their missions, services and available volunteer opportunities. Anyone who signs up to volunteer will have the chance to win prizes donated by area businesses, like gift certificates and T-shirts.

The volunteer fair is sponsored by the Carolina Center for Public Service, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce and The Chapel Hill News, in partnership with UNC Student Government and the UNC Graduate and Professional Student Federation.

For more information, contact the Carolina Center for Public Service at 843-7568 or online at www.unc.edu/cps or Virginia Knapp at the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce at 967-7075.
