‘Komen on the Go’ national education tour
to bring breast health information to Triangle

CHAPEL HILL -- "On the Way to the Cure – Komen on the Go," a nationwide community educational tour, will bring breast health information to the Raleigh and Chapel Hill communities later this week when the tour’s pink trailer makes stops at two local universities.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation North Carolina Triangle Affiliate will host tour stops at North Carolina State University on Thursday (Sept. 29) at the Brickyard, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Friday (Sept. 30) between Davis Library and Lenoir Dining Hall.

Hours both days will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the public is invited.

The 14-week, 34-stop tour aims to increase awareness of breast health and breast cancer and increase individual commitment to potentially life-saving health habits.

The "Komen on the Go" trailer converts into an interactive learning center, complete with computer kiosks, breast cancer educational materials, breast self-examination (BSE) guides, information on how to volunteer locally, registration cards for the Komen N.C. Affiliate Race for the Cure and other information.

Eight-foot graffiti walls constructed at the college and university stops nationwide give students an opportunity to share a memory or pledge their support in the fight against breast cancer. Local breast cancer survivors and health-care professionals will be on hand to share their experiences and knowledge.
