Reading groups, census, topics of March workshops
UNC’s School of Information and Library Science will present two continuing education workshops this spring -- one for reading enthusiasts and one for those wanting to make sense of North Carolina census data.
"Creating, Joining and Enjoying Reading Groups" will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 22 in Manning Hall. Associate professor Dr. David Carr will lead the half-day program on reasons and methods for creating and joining a reading group, particularly one developed in a library, school or workplace. Carr, named the school’s outstanding teacher of the year for 2000-2001, leads a reading group based at the school. The registration fee is $45 for professionals and $25 for students.
"Librarians and the Census: Demystifying the Data" will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 26 in Manning. Workshop leaders Bob Coats and Charles Lanier from the N.C. State Data Center and Michele Hayslett from the State Library will demonstrate free Web resources that can help librarians and others with demographic and statistical questions. The registration fee is $55 for professionals and $35 for students.
