Health law and bioethics expert to give lecture ThursdayGeorge J. Annas, ranked this year as the U.S.’s most cited law professor in health law, will deliver a lecture titled "Doctors and Lawyers and Wolves: What Is a Patient Advocate and Who Needs One?" at UNC on Thursday (Nov. 13).
The lecture, free to the public, will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Carolina Inn’s Chancellor’s Ballroom.
Annas is Edward R. Utley professor and chair of the department of health law, bioethics and human rights at Boston University’s School of Public Health. He also is a professor in BU’s schools of law and medicine.
He co-founded Global Lawyers and Physicians, a transnational professional association of lawyers and physicians that promotes human rights and health. Since 1991, Annas has written a regular feature on "Legal Issues in Medicine" for the New England Journal of Medicine, and he has written more than 200 articles on health law and bioethics.
The lecture is sponsored by UNC’s School of Public Health, its department of health behavior and health education, and the inaugural UNC Patient Advocacy Conference, "Patients, Families and Health Care Providers: Partners in Decision-Making, Advocates in Health Care."
