Planetarium to host book-signing by best-selling children’s author

Best-selling children’s book author Mary Pope Osborne will sign copies of her "Magic Tree House" books March 27 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.

The signing will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The author will autograph up to two hardback books and two paperbacks per guest. "Magic Tree House" books will be on sale at the Morehead Center.

Planetarium officials are bracing for a large crowd for the book-signing.

"Mary’s publisher told us to prepare for between 600 and 900 children that day," said Bob Gotwals, Morehead Center associate director. "This is a big deal for 6-, 7- and 8-year-olds."

Osborne, a UNC alumna, is visiting Chapel Hill for the premiere of "Magic Tree House Space Mission," a new planetarium show based on the book series, which has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide since 1994.

The new planetarium show, written by Will Osborne, Mary’s husband, will be playing Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. For additional show times and information, click on www.moreheadplanetarium.org.
