National professional organization recognizes career services director
Marcia Harris, director of University Career Services at UNC, was elected recently to the Academy of Fellows of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
Individuals selected to the academy have contributed to the career services and human resources/staffing profession through the advancement of knowledge, leadership or excellence in professional practice. Created in 1994, the academy has recognized 18 fellows. Of those, 12 have been college career services practitioners.
The organization will recognize Harris at its national meeting June 1-4 in Orlando, Fla., and feature her in the fall issue of its journal.
Harris has won several awards recognizing practical tools and practices she has created. In 1988, she won the NACE/Chevron Award for Innovative Programs in the Career Services Field for an automated jobs hotline system. Harris also won a NACE Award for Excellence in 1998 for the Carolina Connection, a Web-based database of university alumni who have volunteered to help UNC students and graduates with their career plans and job searches.
